Students with Special Needs Policy

Purpose –

To Provide support and assistance to students having difficulties accessing the curriculum due to disabilities, disorders and/or syndromes

Definition –

Students with special needs, for the purposes of this policy, include: students with mental health problems [eg depression]; students with medical health issues [eg autism, Aspergers, disgraphia, dislexia] information processing difficulties, language disorders, sensory impairments and students living in difficult circumstances.

Rationale –

  • Some students have special needs as a result of disabilities, disorders, syndromes, circumstances at XJS.
  • These students will require support and assistance to realise their potential
  • Staff, students and family need to be aware of strategies to identify and respond on an individual needs basis

Aims –

  • To improve the learning environment and learning outcomes for students with special needs
  • To implement and maintain a whole school approach to address the specific needs of students with disabilities, disorders, syndromes
  • To implement and maintain an active and confidential Register of Students with Special Needs.
  • To advise at the beginning of every school year of students with special needs that they will be teaching
  • To empower students to be proactive in problem solving associated with problems they may encounter such as bullying
  • To heighten awareness at a whole school level
  • To provide skills and strategies and a support network to enhance learning, social and emotional outcomes for students with special needs.

Outcomes –

  • Identify the needs of our students and develop strategies to meet these specific needs
  • All students with special needs to have strategies to deal with issues related to their specific requirements
  • Teachers to recognise that all students require ongoing, individual assistance
  • To improve home and school liaison

Staff program –

  • Relevant training be made available to all teachers of students with special needs to improve learning outcomes
  • Staff to be active in reporting potential learning difficulties in students
  • Teachers to be active in implementing individual learning programs for students with special needs
  • Teachers help formulate and support the individual student with special needs learning program.
  • Staff will maintain regular contact with parents and guardians and feedback to teachers as required.

Procedures for Students –

  • Make it known to class teachers if you are experiencing difficulties in learning or at home
  • Understand that assistance is available if the school is aware of your needs/difficulties. Report to the class teachers and let them know the difficulties being experienced.

Procedures for Parents –

  • If you suspect your child is in need of assistance or has an existing/identified problem please contact the class teachers and they will liaise with the principal of the school and relevant agencies. The school will liaise with parents on a regular basis for as long as required.

作用:

本规定的制定是为了给那些因生理或心理缺陷或疾病无法正常学习的学生提供支持与帮助。

定义:

本规定中提到的有特殊需要的学生包括:有心理问题的学生(如抑郁症);有生理疾病的学生(如孤独症、社交困难症、书写困难症、阅读障碍),有信息处理困难症、语言障碍、知觉障碍的学生以及家庭处境困难的学生。

理论基础:

  • 我校有些学生因为身体原因、心理原因或者家庭处境原因有一些特殊的需求。
  • 这些学生需要额外的支持与帮助以发挥出自己的潜能。
  • 教职员工、学生及家庭需要了解识别及应对个人实际需求的方法。

目标:

  • 帮助这些有特殊需求的学生改善学习环境,提高学习成绩。
  • 在全校范围内制定和保持帮助这些特殊学生的计划。
  • 积极欢迎有特殊需求学生注册,并注意对其个人信息的保密
  • 在每学年开学初告知这些有特殊需求的学生他们即将要面对的学习
  • 帮助这些学生积极面对和解决他们可能面对的问题,比如校园欺凌
  • 在全校范围内普及有关照顾特殊学生的信息
  • 为促进有特殊需求的学生的学业成绩、社会和情感交流,为他们提供学习方法和支持网络

预期结果:

  • 识别学生的需求,并为他们制定应对措施
  • 所有有特殊需求的学生都有相应应对各自需求的办法
  • 教师意识到所有学生都需要持续且具个性化的协助
  • 增进学校和家庭的联系

员工培训计划:

  • 为教师提供相关培训,帮助学习提高学业成绩。
  • 教师积极汇报学生潜在的学习困难。
  • 教师积极地为有特殊需求的学生制定个性化的学习计划 。
  • 教师帮助并支持有特殊需求的学生制定个人学习计划。
  • 教职员工与家长及监护人保持联系,并在有需要时告知任课教师反馈意见。

学生汇报特殊需求程序:

  • 如果你在学习或家庭处境方面面临困难,请告诉你的任课老师。
  • 理解如果学校了解到你的需求或困难,会向你提供协助。

家长汇报特殊需求程序:

  • 如果您感觉您的孩子需要帮助,或者存在什么问题,请和任课老师联系,他们会通知校长及相关协助机构。如果有需要,学校会定期与家长取得联系。
