(20/07/2023)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message
初赛:由各华文学校自行组织评选工作;
复赛:由维州华文学校联络会秘书处及各华文学校中文教师负责遴选;

Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School
Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Welcome back to school. Our Term 3 started last weekend. I would like to let you know three events you might be interested today.
1. Last week, we reported the Chinese Culture Camp in Ningbo during Term 2 school holiday and announced the registration notice for the Chinese Culture Camp in Fujian (Quanzhou) scheduled in Term 3 school holiday. Many students presented their interest in the first week and places were half-filled. Parents have raised quite a few questions and I would like to give you more information here about the event. The Chinese Culture Camp in China and online are both organised by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese dedicating to encourage Chinese language and culture learning and understanding among youngsters with Chinese backgrounds outside China. Participants in Fujian Camp would visit Xiamen, Quanzhou and Nanjing visiting Kulangsu and Nanjing Tulou which are recognised on the world heritage list and Quanzhou is acknowledged by UN as the starting point of Maritime Silk Road. I believe Year 10 and above students would be very interested to study the Chinese culture and history in Fujian with authentic and first-hand experience. Please click here for registration (students registered last week might have to register again due to the change of event arrangement). The itinerary and detailed information would be available in the Wechat group once the registration is done and the final student list would be forwarded to relevant Chinese authorities for approval. Places are limited!
2. I would like to introduce you “2023 Victorian Youth Talent Show” organised by the Council of Chinese Language Schools Victoria. The talent show encourages Chinese youngsters in Victoria to present their talents in music, dancing, talk show and other forms from the view of Chinese traditional culture. This is an excellent platform for youngsters to present themselves, learn from each other and also present their understanding and appreciation to Chinese culture and tradition.
Registration at XJS is due on Sunday 20 August 2023 and first-round competition would be arranged later within the school.
The requirements of performance include: 1) choose any form of presentation mentioned above with inspiring contents; 2) the performance is presented in the view of Chinese culture; 3) the content of the performance could be related to your passion in China, Chinese culture or your cultural experience; 4) the first-round show presented to XJS is limited within 5 minutes; 5) the second-round show should be recorded in video format with no edition and no special effects, limited within 5 minutes; 6) participants could prepare their own performing outfits and stage properties.
The types of performance (focus on Chinese culture) could be: Chinese songs singing, Chinese traditional dancing, musical instrument performing, xiangsheng, Chinese traditional painting and Chinese calligraphy etc.
Performance group (based on day school year levels)
(1) Musical group: Prep-Y2 group, Y3-6 group, Y7 and above group.
(2) Non-musical group: Prep-Y2 group, Y3-6 group, Y7 and above group.

First-round competition: organised and selected by XJS.
Second-round competition: marked and selected by the Council of Chinese Language Schools Victoria and teachers of local Chinese schools.
Final competition: marked by professional judges, representatives of Council of Chinese Language Schools Victoria and consuls of Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Melbourne. Live audience would also play an important role in marking.
Awards
Participants in the second-round competition would be presented “Selected Award” certificates and medals.
6 Gold Awards in the final competition would be presented with certificates, trophies and prizes.
6 Silver Awards in the final competition would be presented with certificates, trophies and prizes.
A couple of Outstanding Awards would be presented with certificates and gifts.
3. Some parents have raised enquiry about a concert in Monash University organised by a Chinese community. I would like to let you know XJS is not the organiser of the concert. However, we would be very happy to share the relevant information here: The Yellow River Cantata concert is scheduled on Thursday 27 July 2023, 7:00pm at Monash University. If you are interested in the concert, please click here for details and select your seats online.
I wish you healthy and happy with your family. Let’s see you on campus this weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
