(English version available in the end)

Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School
Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
I would like to let you know that Term 1 at XJS ends on 29/30 March. The school holiday is from 31 March to 25 April and Term 2 starts on 26/27 April.
In Term 1, our 3500 students, with the support and encouragement of their parents, persevered in attending Chinese classes despite extreme weather conditions such as heat and heavy rain, alongside our teachers. Volunteers from CPCA also continued to support us every week. I would like to extend my respect and gratitude to all members of our school community, including teachers, students, parents and volunteers.
Recently, many parents have inquired whether we will organize activities during the Term 1 break, such as events similar to the Chinese Culture Camp. Since this holiday coincides with the Easter public holiday, many of our staff members have already made plans (and I believe many parents have also arranged trips or visits to China for the family), so we will not be organizing student activities during Term 1 break. However, for Year 12 students preparing for the VCE exams, their teachers will arrange intensive training sessions during the holiday based on students’ specific needs. Participation is voluntary and students should pay attention to notifications from their class teachers.
Here, I would like to give you an early announcement about an upcoming event during the Term 2 break: the “Chinese Culture Camp” for Chinese youth born outside China. The event will take place from July 7 to July 18 in Zhaoqing, a city rich in history and culture. It is hosted by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and the Zhaoqing Overseas Chinese Federation, with support from the Victorian Multicultural Association and Phoenix Travel Agency.
The event is open exclusively to students of XJS, with a limit of 20 participants. All students who are at least 12 years old (as of July 7) and in good health are eligible to register. Please click to sign up. If the number of applicants exceeds the limit, the first 20 students who register will be accepted.
Why Choose Zhaoqing? Let me share some background with you. Our school has previously hosted three online Chinese Culture Camp focused on Guangdong’s historic city of Zhaoqing. Hundreds of students participated in these online camps, learning about Zhaoqing’s history, geography, cultural landmarks, modern China stories and prominent figures through listening stories, watching beautifully crafted short videos and engaging interactive learning activities. Each time, students found the experience so captivating that they wished it could continue.
Now, we finally have the opportunity to see Zhaoqing in person and experience its unique cultural charm firsthand. This trip will take us from the virtual world to reality, allowing students to immerse themselves in calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, fan-making, steamed rice dumpling preparation, Duan inkstone crafting, ancient handmade papermaking and a variety of cultural tours. Through these hands-on activities, students will gain a deeper appreciation of Zhaoqing’s rich heritage while making unforgettable memories with friends.
This year, the Zhaoqing Overseas Chinese Federation has specially reserved limited spots for XJS students. We will also assign volunteer teachers to accompany the group as part of the team leaders. Students who register will receive a detailed itinerary and cost breakdown from the event organizers.
Please note that before the official group is confirmed and our teachers are formally appointed as team leaders by the organizers, we are unable to provide detailed answers regarding the event. Thank you for your understanding!
Finally, I wish everyone a wonderful holiday ahead!
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
