各位老师、同学和家长：

大家好！上个星期周末是我们第二学期的第2个教学周，全校学生的出勤率从开学第一周的96%上升到了97%。同时，上个星期各校区还分别有不少新生报名入读网课。这个可以证明我们的“云课堂”教学质量受到了家长们的认可。

今天，我要跟大家介绍一位我们Brighton中文学校的学生家长杨笑笑女士。杨女士自己在读书（网课）学习，她的孩子是我们低年级的学生。她跟我说，从她自身的经历体会到中文学校的老师们为上好网课一定做了“很多琐碎的工作”，老师面对她年幼的孩子表示出极大的耐心更让她感动。她说疫情终会结束，师生们又会在学校相见，最初时刻老师们可能还需要带口罩。杨女士早就想为学校做点事了，于是就从中国买了4000多个口罩分5个小箱运来，请我转给老师们。我跟杨女士还没见过一面，但是我相信我们所有的老师跟我一样由衷地感谢杨女士。有这么好的家长的关心和支持，我们一定会克服各种困难把中文教育越办越好。

这里，我还要跟家长们讲一件事。上网课了，老师和学生们没有了面对面交流的机会，网课把师生关系限制在仅仅是“上课”上了。师生间的交流是情感教育的重要内容，是增进师生了解、激发学生学习兴趣的好方法。我们的老师从对学生负责、对教学负责的态度出发，给学生和家长们建群希望加强课余时间的沟通保障学习。对此，有家长提出了孩子小不希望参与等意见跟学校商讨。我向这些家长表示感谢，也请家长们放心加入班级群是完全自愿的。学校根据教育部的要求制定了《网课安全注意事项》，老师们一定会严格执行的。只要家长跟学生不在同一群里，只要老师在群里仅做教学或提供教学辅助材料，我们会在这非常时期继续给学生们提供优质的中文教学服务。

最近的天气渐渐冷了下来，请老师、同学和家长们注意多运动，休息好，健康最重要。

Principal’s Message

Dear teachers, students and parents,

Last weekend was the second week of Term 2. Our attendance rate reached 97% from the first week’s 96% and there were many new students joining our online classes in each campus. I’m very glad that the online learning we are delivering has been acknowledged and supported by the parents.

Today I would like to share you a story of Ms Xiaoxiao Yang, a parent of student from Brighton campus. Ms Yang says she is doing online learning herself and fully understands how much work a teacher has to take to make sure students benefit from the online classes. She also sincerely appreciates the patience the Chinese teachers have presented in online classes for young students. Considering when students are allowed to come back to school, teachers might have to wear face masks in class, she purchased 4000 face masks and asked me to pass them to our teachers. I haven’t met Ms Yang personally, but I believe all the teachers would love to present their appreciation to her and with support from parents like Ms Yang our Chinese language teaching would keep on working successfully at this difficult time.

There is one more thing I would love to share with you. Due to COVID-19, class time has turned to be the only opportunity for students to communicate with their teachers. The teacher-student communication is a very important part of education that can not only encourage understanding between the two parties but also increase students’ interest in learning. To create more opportunity for teachers to support students’ learning outside class time, we have developed Wechat groups. Some parents claim that they do not want to join the groups. It is totally fine as it is not compulsory and we appreciate for parents’ feedback. Teachers would follow the Virtual Classroom Policy based on the requirements of DET. Parent groups would be separated from student groups and teachers are only expected to provide teaching support in these groups. We would keep on providing quality Chinese learning services for all our students at this critical time.

It’s getting cold this week. Please keep warm and do some exercise if possible.
