(English version available in the end)

Principal’s Message

Dear teachers, students and parents,

Since we issued the notice for 2026 student enrolment, registration and fee payment two weeks ago, nearly 30% of our current students have already completed their registration and made the payment for next year. All students who complete next year’s registration and payment within this year can not only enjoy the early-bird discount but also help the school with class planning and teacher arrangements for the coming year. We would like to express our gratitude to these students and parents!

I am aware that quite a number of parents have already made the payment for next year on behalf of their children but have not completed the online registration yet, which prevents the school from including these students in the official count. I would like to emphasize that, in accordance with the requirements of DET, students at community language schools must register every year. Therefore, all continuing students must re-register when paying next year’s tuition fees. I kindly ask parents who have already paid the fees to complete the online registration as soon as possible. If you encounter any issues while doing so, please visit our campus offices over the weekend for assistance. For those who have not yet registered and paid, please try to complete the process by 6/7 December, the last teaching day of this school year. If you have any questions, please also visit our offices onsite over the weekend so our staff can assist you and answer your questions.

In addition, our school held the first entrance exam for the Accelerated Chinese Classes across all year levels, with more than 400 students participating. According to the invigilating teachers, most students who took the exam demonstrated seriousness and confidence during the test, which impressed the teachers. Based on statistical analysis, the majority of these students are not currently enrolled at our school. Their participation shows that they recognize the quality of our Accelerated Chinese program and hope to improve their Chinese proficiency through studying in our Accelerated Chinese Classes. I understand that the admission notices for the Accelerated classes will be issued soon. Although there may be limited places available, I would still like to congratulate all the students who came to take the exam and wish that they will all achieve their goals.

I would like to let you know our school is scheduled to hold an open day event for early childhood teaching observation on MWNPS campus on Saturday 29 November, and a school-wide open day event at MWSC (senior campus) on Sunday 7 December when CPCA member volunteers will organize Chinese cultural activities and give away gifts. You and all walks of life, especially parents, are welcome to bring their children to campus.

After the start of 2026 registration and payment process, some parents contacted me either through the class teacher or directly, raising some issues they were concerned about, mainly about the teacher arrangements for 2026 and the development of the school. I would like to share the information with you here:

1. Generally, our teachers are arranged for Early Learning, Prep, Years 1-3, Years 4-6, Years 7-9, Years 10 or 10-11, Years 11 or 11-12. On special occasions, some teachers are arranged for teaching Years 1-6 or for Years 4-7. This arrangement is determined through consultation based on the specific circumstances of the students in the class and the class management experience of the teachers. Due to the tradition of teacher arrangement, parents of those classes that will change teachers next year are particularly concerned about which teacher will take over. The issue of who-will-teach-us is more concerned among students in accelerated classes (especially those currently in years 9, 10 and 11 who will be upgraded to years 10, 11 and 12 next year). I understand that the students and parents who raised the question are satisfied with the current teachers. I also know that under the leadership of the current teachers over the past few years, the entire class has become a happy team learning Chinese quite well, which I’m very glad. In the past few weeks, I have been visiting various campuses to talk to teachers and parents. I have also discussed with the campus coordinators and the VCE coordinator to make arrangements for teachers and handovers between teachers as soon as possible after student upgrades. I believe that teacher arrangements for most classes will be completed by the end of the school year. Some classes may be confirmed later after the consultation with teachers for further feedback which might take a bit more time.

2. Our students’ scores in the VCE Chinese exams each year have been among the best in Victoria. Among the current high school/VCE teachers, SHEN Xueling, GAO Ning, XIA Jie, ZHAN Xia, LI Hanjing, WANG Huiming, YANG Ying, WANG Yifan and other teachers have trained dozens of VCE full score students and Premier’s Award receivers for our school. Teachers such as LIU Wenxia, LIU Xingchang, ZHAO Yichen, WANG Jue, and CHEN Dongfeng, together with the above-mentioned teachers, have trained hundreds of students with high scores in VCE Chinese exams. There is no doubt that these brilliant results are recorded in the VCE High Scorers list over the years. We also have a group of excellent Year 10 teachers who have prepared students well for their VCE 11 and 12 Chinese learning who in the end have made great achievement in their VCE Chinese final exams.

3. XJS is a DET accredited community language school, VCAA accredited VCE Single Study Provider (for four subjects including Chinese FL, Chinese SL, Chinese SLA and Chinese Language, Culture and Society) and has been approved by VRQA for VCE teaching and administration. In addition, XJS is also a member of CLV and teachers can voluntarily join the teachers’ union and follow formal procedures for industrial relations issues.

All in all, as an Australian community language school with more than 3,500 students and more than 150 teachers, XJS needs to improve in many aspects such as standardization and specialization. Community language school is a new thing brought about by Australia’s basic national policy of multiculturalism, and it needs more experience and continuous improvement.

We will not forget our original aspirations, strictly abide by the regulations of the DET, with the efforts from every community member including teachers, students and parents,  continue to provide high-quality Chinese teaching for school-age children, primary and secondary school students in the Australian community, promote Chinese culture and make a contribution to Australia’s multicultural society.

Let’s see you on campus this weekend.

Yours sincerely,

Kevin Hu, Principal
