(11/06/2026)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message
(English version available in the end)

Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School
Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Hello everyone! According to the XJS 2026 School Calendar, Term 2 will end on June 20/21. However, the Saturday classes on MWNPS campus were suspended once in Term 1 due to the Open Day held by the day school. They will make up classes on Saturday 27 June, and the class schedule remains unchanged. High school/VCE Year 12 students are expected to attend classes on Saturday 27 June due to class time regulations. The class time and classroom arrangements for each class will be informed by the High school/VCE sector through the class teacher. All Year 12 students are to be prepared for the classes on Saturday 27 June.
Term 3 starts from 18/19 July.
This weekend, most year levels in our school will have exam arrangements. The exam formats will include recitation, oral test, written dictation, quiz questions and writing according to the requirements of each year level. When marking and grading papers, teachers would understand how much skills students have obtained in Chinese language learning after half a year of study, so that they can carry out teaching according to the students’ actual learning situation for the rest of the year.
Here I would like to let you know and recommend some holiday activities ahead.
First of all, nearly 100 XJS students participated in the 5th Five Continents Chinese Youth Chinese Character Chess Online Competition organized by the Overseas Chinese Federation of Ningbo, Zhejiang, China, and achieved good results again. According to the news announced by the organizer of the competition, a total of 22 students from our school won awards. Among them, students such as Dingyun Tu, Yanshao Chen, Zhaoting Sun and Shuhan Mao won the first prize of the competition, Yiyi Li and others won the second prize, and Yuxiao Zhang and other students won the third prize. The instructor was Teacher Peifen Xu from the Accelerated Chinese Program of the school. I am here to congratulate the teachers and classmates! Since students from our school have achieved good results in the Chinese character chess competition for several consecutive years, the Zhejiang Overseas Chinese Federation specially invited some students from our school to participate in the Chinese Culture Camp for overseas Chinese youth held in Ningbo in early July this year.
I learned that many parents in our school particularly support their children’s participation in the Chinese culture camp activities, and some parents specifically transferred their children from other Chinese schools because our school recommends the Chinese culture camp activities to students every year. Due to its rigorous organization, thoughtful arrangements and rich content, the culture root seeking journey is widely loved by young people and plays an irreplaceable role in promoting their learning of Chinese and Chinese culture. Normally, after receiving the invitation from the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, we will promptly notify everyone so that students can sign up voluntarily. However, I have to tell you the truth here. Because the number of places is very limited, we have to publish it in a specific student group according to the organizer’s requirements. Therefore, some parents reported to me that their children could not register. I ask parents for their special understanding. But there will also be students who sign up but are unable to make the trip. For example, because our school students have achieved outstanding results in the World Chinese Student Writing Competition year after year, the award-winning students of XJS were invited to participate in the Root Seeking Summer Camp held in Beijing in late July this year. However, it was already the third semester of the school in Victoria. Although some award-winning students had signed up, they had to regretfully cancel it because we could not find a leading teacher to accompany them.
Secondly, I would like to recommend to you another Chinese culture camp activity held during the Term 3 holiday (late September) – “Fujian Quanzhou Fengze Autumn Camp”, which is co-organized by the Australia-China Youth Exchange Association in Melbourne. Registration for the camp must be approved by the organizer, the Overseas Chinese Federation. Campers’ meals, accommodation, study, travel and other expenses are free of charge after arriving at the camp. Each camper and student can only participate in one root-seeking trip activity within 12 months. This event is limited to 30 people. Parents and students who are interested in knowing the specific time and event arrangements can click https://auschina.org/2026-quanzhou-camp/ to contact the Australia-China Youth Exchange Association.
In addition, based on the successful holiday program held last year, Melbourne Zicheng Pavilion once again launched the “Young Virtuous Person School Holiday Program” from July 6 to 10 this year (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). In addition to traditional Chinese culture (festivals and customs, etc.), there are also calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, martial arts, dance and music. Anyone aged 6-14 who is interested in participating please click https://www.trybooking.com/DMSRK. Consultation: Teacher Lin 0433 381 368.
Finally, here is a competition open to all Chinese school students in Victoria: the 6th “Chinese Cup” 2026 Chinese Youth Chinese Short Drama Competition in Victoria – Learning Chinese Stories, hosted by the Chinese Federation of Chinese Schools in Victoria. Students from XJS have participated in the past five competitions and achieved excellent results every time. This competition is conducted in the form of a short play for three people. The content requirements are: (1) telling interesting stories and growth experiences in the process of learning Chinese; (2) showing the differences, understanding, and reconciliation process with parents in learning Chinese or cultural cognition; (3) showing the understanding and experience of Chinese culture during the learning process, such as traditional customs, festival culture, etc.; (4) presenting real situations and reflections on the comparison of Chinese and Western cultures and cross-cultural exchanges. The competition is divided into three groups according to day school year levels: Years 1-4 group, Years 5-8 group, and Years 9-12 group. Our school will hold a preliminary competition in Term 3 to select the best teams from the three groups to represent XJS in the finals in Victoria. Students who are interested in this are welcome to voluntarily form a team and choreograph short plays to sign up for the competition. The specific arrangements will be notified later.
I wish students and teachers all the best in the exams and teaching in the coming weeks! See you on campus this weekend!
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
