(English version available in the end)

Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Hello everyone! Our Term 4 begins this weekend (October 10/11). As classes were cancelled for one weekend during Term 3 due to a power outage at the Mt Waverley campus, we will make up for that missed lesson in Term 4. Consequently, this term will consist of ten teaching weeks, concluding on December 12/13. I would like to share a few important updates regarding the Term4 with you.
First, the most important and highly anticipated event in the Term 4 each year is the VCE Chinese examination for Year 12 students. During the school holidays, our school’s Senior School/VCE Chinese Department organized intensive mock oral exam training sessions for the Year 12 students. The students prepared diligently and participated enthusiastically, while the teachers provided careful guidance and maintained high standards. The sessions went very well. I believe our students will be able to achieve their best and most satisfying results in their final VCE exams.
Secondly, during the Term 4, the school will hold a unified examination to assess students’ Chinese learning progress over the past year. Class teachers for Year 1-11 will complete Semester 2 Student Progress Reports and the school will also select “Outstanding Students of the Year” from each class across these year levels; specific quotas for the various awards will be announced separately.
Thirdly, Victoria is reforming the Working with Children (WWC) Check to strengthen safeguards for children and help organisations make safer decisions about the people they engage to work or volunteer with children. From 19 October 2026, the new WWC Connect online service will be introduced. It will help organisations and sole traders meet the new legal requirement to notify the Social Services Regulator (SSR) about workers and volunteers they engage in child-related work and help the SSR identify who needs to be informed if a person’s WWC Clearance status changes. Moreover, workers and volunteers will need to complete a mandatory child safe training before a WWC Check application can be finalised if they are:
· new WWC Check applicants
· people renewing their WWC Clearance
· people changing from a volunteer WWC Clearance to an employee WWC Clearance.
The training will help build a consistent understanding of child safety responsibilities across Victoria’s child-related workforce. The training complements and does not replace an organisations’ existing child safety responsibilities, induction, supervision and training.
Victoria’s policies regarding child safety are becoming increasingly stringent. This serves not only as a prompt for our teachers, administrative staff and volunteers to uphold high standards in their work but, more importantly, as a guarantee of safety for all students at the school. I am confident that everyone will actively cooperate to create a safe and healthy learning environment for the children at XJS.
See you on campus this weekend.
