Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Our Term 4 ends this weekend (7/8 Dec) and the school holiday is from 9 Dec 2024 to 7 Feb 2025. Term 1 of 2025 starts from 8/9 Feb 2025.
To make it convenient for parents to take advantage of our early bird discount when registering and paying fees for their children, an Open Day is scheduled on 14/15 Dec (first weekend during the school holiday) at the senior campus of MWSC for all year levels from Early learning to Year 12 from 9:30am to 4pm.
In 2024, over 3,600 students have consistently attended classes on weekends to learn Chinese language and culture. Our Year 12 students have successfully completed their VCE (high school) Chinese courses and obtained the VCE (high school) Chinese subject certificates. They have also participated in the VCE Chinese final exams. I extend my congratulations to all Year 12 students and wish them excellent results in the VCE Chinese exams.
On this occasion, please allow me, on behalf of the school, to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all members of our school community, including teachers, students, parents and volunteers (especially the CPCA member volunteers). I thank the parents for their unwavering commitment to bringing their children to school regardless of the weather, the students for their diligent study of Chinese language and culture, and the teachers for their dedication and hard work in teaching. My gratitude also goes to the staff of the management team and CPCA volunteers for ensuring campus safety and maintaining the normal teaching order. Without all of you, XJS would not have achieved another successful year. I would also like to express my appreciation to the organizations that have provided various forms of support and assistance to our school over the past year: Community Languages of Victoria, Victorian Chinese Schools Association, Mount Waverley Secondary College, Mount Waverley North Primary School, Ausfocus International Media Group, Australian Chinese News and ausaview.com, etc.
In 2024, XJS students once again achieved outstanding results in the World Chinese Student Writing Competition and the World Chinese Youth Hanzi Chess Invitational, ranking among the top. They also participated in a series of Chinese cultural activities organized by all-level ACFROC of China, enhancing their interest in learning Chinese language and culture. Among these activities, 32 teachers and students took part in the Yunnan Root-Seeking Study Tour, and 29 joined the Fujian Quanzhou Camp of the China Root-Seeking Tour. Additionally, 62 students participated in the online Chinese Culture Camp Kunming camp, and 63 students joined the Wuwei camp. During the Christmas and New Year holidays, some of our teachers and students will travel to China to participate in root-seeking activities held in Dunhuang. XJS students also engaged in a unique cultural learning program facilitated by the Australian Zhejiang Association and Taizhou Fellowship Association, connecting with students in Yuhuan, Zhejiang, via online platforms. Together, they collaborated on crafting dragon fish lanterns and exploring China’s intangible cultural heritage.
In 2024, a total of 340 students were recognized as “Students of the Year” and will be awarded XJS Gold Medals. Additionally, 500 students were named “Outstanding Students of the Year” and will receive XJS Silver Medals. Hundreds more students, who have demonstrated significant academic progress, will be presented with “Academic Progress” certificates. The full list of award recipients will be published on the school’s website at www.xjs.vic.edu.au, and we welcome you to check it out.
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the students who have received medals and certificates. I encourage everyone to learn from them, strive to excel in Chinese language learning and carry forward the rich heritage of Chinese culture.
As of December 6th, nearly 1,330 students at XJS have completed their registration and payment for 2025. For parents who have not yet completed their children’s registration and payment for next year, we kindly ask you to visit the gym on the senior campus of MWSC on 14/15 December to complete the process. If you have any questions during the event, our professional and patient staff will be there to assist you and provide all the help you need.
