各位老师、同学和家长:
大家好!今天,有三件大事跟大家报告:
第一件事,上个星期六(11月23日),我校假Mt Waverley中学剧院为十二年级毕业班学生举办了毕业典礼。会上,Community Bank Pinewood (Bendigo Bank)再次向我校提供了赞助,董事长Robert Davies先生给7位被评为十二年级年度最佳学生颁发了奖牌和礼卡。2024年获得我校VCE中文第一语言课程年度最佳学生奖的是陈鋆泓和梁宇桐同学,获得VCE中文第二语言课程年度最佳学生奖的是殷嘉仪和徐汝玉同学,获得VCE中文第二语言高级课程年度最佳学生奖的是赵芮欣和张晋源同学,获得中国语言文化与社会课程年度最佳学生奖的是温军洋同学。
毕业典礼上,校委会主席孙浩良和我给毕业班的老师们送了鲜花和礼卡,给毕业班的学生们颁发了VCE单科(中文)学习毕业证书。嘉宾、老师和学生代表分别作了精彩的发言,维护校园安全和教学秩序的所有行政人员被请到台上接受大家的掌声感谢,部分毕业班的同学还表演了乐器独奏、小品和集体说唱等节目。整场会议气氛热烈,富有创意和青春活力,令人难忘。
在这里,我要再次向十二年级7位同学年度最佳学生表示祝贺并祝所有毕业班的同学在VCE中文考试中取得理想的好成绩。
第二件事,上个星期日(11月24日),由维多利亚州中文学校联络会主办的第四届华文杯—2024年维州华裔青少年中华文化知识大赛举办了决赛。举办这场比赛的目的是要鼓励华校学生积极学习和了解包括历史、文化、艺术、传统习俗等各方面的中华文化知识,提升海外华裔青少年的文化素养。我校在第三学期曾举办过知识竞赛的初赛,从中选出代表学校进入决赛的选手。
当天,我校陈亦珺、刘丁萌和李一鸣同学参加了1-3年级组的决赛,孙辰晨、张墨凌和彭承烨同学参加了4-6年级组的决赛,杨佳玥、胡景博和杜林峰同学参加了7-9年级组的决赛。经过必答、抢答以及加题抢答,我们学校成绩不错,获得了决赛1-3年级组的铜牌和4-6年级组的铜牌。我要向所有代表学校参加决赛的同学们表示祝贺,我在比赛现场见证了你们在决赛中的出色表现,值得为你们点赞。希望有更多的同学在中文学习的过程中加深了解包括历史、文化、艺术、传统习俗等各方面的中华文化知识,在澳大利亚多元文化社会中传播中华优秀文化。借此机会,我也要向代表我校参与本次知识大赛决赛组织工作的薛静楡老师,以及担任义务领队的金思敏、刘芸两位老师表示感谢,向成功举办此次知识大赛的维多利亚州华文学校联络会表示敬意。
第三件事,第二十五届世界华人学生作文大赛海外征文开始,相关说明如下:一、大赛宗旨弘扬中华文化,提高中文写作水平,加强海内外学生文化交流,展示华人学生的精神风貌和中文素养。二、参赛范围海外各国各地区18周岁及以下华裔青少年学生。三、年度主题:读懂中国,联接世界。四、大赛主题本次大赛为非命题作文,作文要求思想健康、内容充实、感情真挚。体裁、题材不限,选好角度,明确文体,题目自拟,可参考以下主题,不得套作,不得抄袭。
主题一:友谊怎样“翻译”, 友谊是什么?从俞伯牙、钟子期兴趣相投的知音难觅,到马克思、恩格斯志同道合的并肩奋斗;从东方的“风雨同舟”到西方的“A friend in need is a friend indeed”;从古代的丝绸之路到现代的“一带一路”,友谊的“翻译”一直在进行。作为一种普遍的人类情感,友谊跨越时间、空间、文化,在不同语境中展现出多样性和共通性。尽管表达形式千差万别、各具特色,但友谊的内核——纯粹而温暖的情感联结,是全人类共同的价值追求。在全球化的今天,友谊不仅是个人情感的寄托,更是推动构建人类命运共同体的重要基石。通过友谊的“翻译”,我们可以打破隔阂、消除偏见,促进不同文化间的相互理解和尊重,为构建更加和谐、包容的世界贡献力量。请结合自己的独特体验和亲身感悟,深入挖掘友谊的内涵和价值,为“友谊”做一个“翻译”。你可以分享自己与朋友之间的友谊故事,也可以将“友谊”的触角延伸至更广阔的领域:或是探讨人与自然之间的和谐共生的独特友谊;或是探讨不同国家之间合作交流的深情厚谊等,你认为值得思考和分享的话题。
主题二:汉字之美汉字是世界上唯一使用至今的表意文字,是华夏悠悠历史的见证者,更是中华熠熠文明的守护者。一笔一画描绘了世间万物,一字一言表达着心中所念,维系了中华文明数千年的传承,蕴藏着中华民族的审美意识、哲学思想。汉字美在古老悠远、美在构型巧思、美在内涵无穷……请结合自己的感受,讲讲你所了解的汉字故事或学习汉字的趣事,诉说你眼中的汉字之美。主题三:参天之木,必有其根;怀山之水,必有其源。中国是中华儿女念兹在兹的永恒家园。故乡是每个人心中那片永远的港湾,承载着我们的成长记忆与情感寄托。它不仅仅是地理上的坐标,更是心灵的归宿,文化的根源。请你回首眺望那片土地,从个人的成长轨迹到家族的生活记忆,从壮丽的自然风光到淳朴的民俗风情,从故乡的沧桑变迁到与时代脉搏的共鸣,深入挖掘中华文化在故乡土壤中的独特韵味与生动展现。不论是记忆中真实的故乡风貌,还是脑海中构建的理想家园,都请以笔为媒,勾勒出一幅幅饱含深情与温度的故乡画卷。
完成时间12月15日(星期日)晚交给班主任老师,班主任老师收集评选出优秀作品在12月18日之前报送学校邮箱,由学校统一报送大赛主办方。
截止今天我写这封信的时候的统计,目前我校已有将近25%的学生已完成注册享受全年学费早鸟优惠(注:这里说的全校学生不包括已经毕业的12年级学生)。家长如对孩子的注册付费事宜有任何疑问的话,请跟您孩子的班主任老师联系,或者您可在周末去校区办公室,我们富有责任心的班主任老师和办公室专业、富有耐心的接待人员一定会给您提供帮助的。

Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Today, I would like to share with you three important events recently. Last Saturday (23 Nov), a VCE Y12 Graduation Ceremony was organised at the Unicorn Theatre of Mt Waverley Secondary College. The Community Bank Pinewood (Bendigo Bank) sponsored the event and the Chairman Mr Robert Davies presented the Student of The Year awards and gift cards to 7 outstanding Year 12 students. Yunhong CHEN and Yutong LIANG were awarded the Student of the Year in VCE Chinese First Language studies; Jiayi YIN and Cecilia XU were awarded the Student of the Year in VCE Chinese Second Language studies; Ruixin ZHAO and Jinyuan ZHANG were awarded the Student of the Year in VCE Chinese Second Language Advanced studies and Junyang OON was awarded the Student of the Year in VCE Chinese Language Culture and Society studies.
On the ceremony, the Chairperson of the School Council Mr Haoliang Sun and myself presented flowers and gift cards to Year 12 teachers and VCE Single Study (Chinese) graduation certificates to Year 12 students.
Distinguished guests, teachers and student representatives delivered inspiring speeches. Our yard duty officers and admin staff were invited on stage to receive a well-deserved round of applause. Additionally, some graduating students showcased their talents through solo musical performances, skits and group rap acts. The entire event was filled with a vibrant and creative atmosphere, brimming with youthful energy, leaving a lasting impression on everyone.
Here, I would like to once again extend my congratulations to the seven Year 12 students who received the Student of the Year Award and wish all graduating students great success in their VCE Chinese exams.
The second event is the 2024 Chinese Culture Quiz final competition last Sunday (24 November). The purpose of this competition is to encourage Chinese school students to actively learn about and understand various aspects of Chinese culture, including history, arts and traditional customs, thereby enhancing the cultural literacy of overseas Chinese youth. In Term 3, our school organized a first-round competition, through which representatives were selected to advance to the finals and represent the school.
Yijun Chen, Dingmeng Liu and Yiming Li attended the Year 1-3 group; Chenchen Sun, Moling Zhang and Chengye Peng attended the Year 4-6 group; Jiayue Yang, Jingbo Hu and Linfeng Du attended the Year 7-9 group. Through rounds of required questions, buzzer questions and additional bonus questions, our school achieved impressive results, earning bronze medals in both the Grades 1–3 and Grades 4–6 categories in the finals. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the students who represented our school in the competition. I witnessed your outstanding performance during the finals and you deserve high praise. I hope more students will deepen their understanding of Chinese culture, including history, arts, traditions and customs through their Chinese language studies. Let us continue to promote the Chinese culture within Australia’s multicultural society.
The third event: the 25th World Chinese Students Writing Competition for Overseas Participants is now open for submissions. Details are as follows:
1. Purpose of the Contest
To promote Chinese culture, enhance Chinese writing skills, strengthen cultural exchange between domestic and overseas students and showcase the spirit and Chinese proficiency of Chinese students worldwide.
2. Eligibility
The contest is open to overseas Chinese youth aged 18 and under from various countries and regions.
3. Annual Theme
“Understanding China, Connecting the World”
4. Contest Requirements
This year’s contest is for non-prescriptive essays. Submissions should reflect healthy values, substantial content and genuine emotions. There are no restrictions on genre or subject matter. Participants should choose their perspective carefully, determine their essay’s form clearly and create their own titles. The following themes may serve as references. Plagiarism and copied works are strictly prohibited.
Theme 1: What is friendship?
From the rare bond between Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi, united by shared interests, to the like-minded collaboration of Marx and Engels; from the Eastern proverb “facing storms together” to the Western saying “A friend in need is a friend indeed”; from the ancient Silk Road to the modern Belt and Road Initiative—friendship has always been in a state of “translation.”
As a universal human emotion, friendship transcends time, space and culture, showcasing both diversity and commonality in various contexts. Despite the vastly different expressions and unique characteristics, the essence of friendship—a pure and warm emotional connection—represents a shared value pursued by all of humanity.
In today’s globalized world, friendship is not just a personal emotional support but also a cornerstone for building a shared future for humanity. Through the “translation” of friendship, we can break down barriers, eliminate prejudice and foster mutual understanding and respect between different cultures. This contributes to creating a more harmonious and inclusive world.
Drawing from your unique experiences and personal insights, delve into the essence and value of friendship and attempt a “translation” of this concept. You may share stories of friendship with your friends or extend the idea of friendship to broader realms, such as the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature or the deep bonds of cooperation and exchange between nations. Choose a topic that you find thought-provoking and worth sharing.
Theme 2: The Beauty of Chinese Characters
Chinese characters, the world’s only logographic writing system still in use, are not only witnesses to the long history of Chinese civilization but also guardians of its radiant culture. Each stroke captures the essence of the world and every character conveys heartfelt thoughts, serving as a bridge that has upheld the legacy of Chinese civilization for thousands of years. Embedded within Chinese characters are the aesthetic sensibilities and philosophical ideas of the Chinese people.
The beauty of Chinese characters lies in their ancient origins, ingenious structure and boundless meaning. Their graceful forms reflect the harmony between art and practicality, while their etymology reveals profound insights into human thought and life.
Drawing from your own experiences, share stories about Chinese characters or amusing anecdotes from learning them. Explore how Chinese characters embody beauty in your eyes, whether through their history, structure or cultural significance. Let these stories reflect your understanding and appreciation of the unique charm of Chinese characters.
Theme 3: The Roots of Home
“As towering trees have their roots and flowing waters have their source, so too does China remain the eternal homeland for all its children.” Home is the harbor of the heart, a place where memories of growth and emotions of belonging reside. It is not merely a geographic location but a spiritual sanctuary and a cultural origin.
Take a moment to look back upon that land—your homeland. Reflect on your personal journey and your family’s shared history. Explore its majestic natural landscapes, its rich traditions and the transformation it has undergone with the tides of time. Through these, uncover the unique flavours of Chinese culture rooted in the soil of your hometown and vividly brought to life.
Whether it’s the real, tangible homeland etched in your memory or the idealized home imagined in your mind, use your words as a medium to paint heartfelt and warm portraits of this cherished place. From the ordinary yet extraordinary beauty of its people and customs to its resonance with the rhythms of an ever-changing world, let your depiction celebrate the deep and enduring connection between homeland and heart.
Submit your work to your class teacher by the evening of December 15th (Sunday). The class teacher will collect and evaluate the submissions to select outstanding entries. Selected works must be sent to the school email by December 18th for unified submission to the contest organizers.
As of the date I am writing this letter, around 800 students from our school have completed registration to enjoy the early bird discount, accounting for 25% of the total students (Note: This figure excludes Year 12 students who have already graduated).
If parents have any questions regarding their child’s registration or payment, please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher. Alternatively, you can visit the school office during the weekend. Our responsible class teachers and the professional, patient office staff will be more than happy to assist you.
Lastly, a kind reminder: with only two teaching weeks remaining, please pay attention to parking signs and drive safely to avoid any penalties.
