(16/04/2026)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message
(English version available in the end)

Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
I would like to let you know our Term 2 will begin this weekend (18/19 April). However, because the following Saturday (25 April) is ANZAC Day, a national day of remembrance and a public holiday in Australia, and solemn ceremonies will be held to commemorate the sacrifices and contributions of our military personnel, XJS has decided to suspend classes next weekend (25/26 April, no school on the two days). Classes will resume as normal on 2/3 May and the Term 2 will end on 20/21 June.
Today, I have some good news to share with all the teachers, students and parents: our students have once again achieved excellent results in the 26th World Chinese Students’ Writing Competition.
According to reports, the World Chinese Students’ Writing Competition, sponsored by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and other organizations, is a nationwide competition approved by the Ministry of Education of China. This year’s competition attracted over 5.7 million students from 3,880 schools in 73 countries and regions, submitting over 550,000 entries. Ultimately, 50 Special Prizes, 3,700 First Prizes, 13,200 Second Prizes, and 18,300 Third Prizes were awarded, with the winning entries accounting for approximately 6% of the total. For many years, XJS has organized teachers to instruct students passionately in participating in competitions, achieving excellent results year after year. This year, a total of 44 students won awards in four age group categories. Among them, Xiwen Ge, a student instructed by the teacher Jingyu Xue, won the Grand Prize for her work “Stars and Pixels” (only 50 out of more than 550,000 entries won the Grand Prize). Students instructed by teachers Yun Liu, Hongai Cui, Xiang Li, Ying Guo, Peifen Xu, Lanhua Xue, Danhong Cai, Yuanjin Chen, Ruxuan Chen, Ming Wu, Lili Ren, and Xingchang Liu won 9 first prizes, 14 second prizes, and 20 third prizes respectively, once again demonstrating the rigorous teaching and remarkable achievements of XJS in the field of Chinese language education (To view the complete list of winners, please click here).
On behalf of all the teachers and students of XJS, I would like to extend my congratulations to all the award-winning students, their teachers and their parents. We look forward to seeing more students study Chinese passionately and achieve excellent results.
In addition, I have some good news to share with the teachers, students and parents of Years 1-7:
The digital version of our current Chinese textbook (primary category, third edition) has been officially released. You can view and download it on our school’s official website (mobile viewing is not supported) at https://xjs.vic.edu.au/form_download/. Please click on “《中文》Electronic Textbook (Third Edition)”. Two boxes, “华文” and “中文”, will appear at the top of the page. Please select “中文”. At the bottom of the page, teachers, students and parents can choose to click on “Textbook”, “Teacher’s Manual”, or “Workbook” as needed to download relevant content from the 12 textbooks. The downloaded content does not support audio-visual playback. Please remain online if you need to view or listen to the texts or exercises.
We hope this multimedia e-textbook will not only help students with a basic level of Chinese who can preview or review and consolidate their Chinese language, but also assist students whose families do not speak Chinese at home. Students and parents who encounter problems while using the textbook can contact their class teacher or visit the school office for support. We are happy to provide all the possible assistance to help students learn Chinese well.
I wish you all a successful Term 2. See you on campus this weekend!
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
