新金山中文学校校长信箱 （10/02/2022）Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message
各位老师、同学和家长：
大家好！我们开学了。上个星期周末，除了早教班暂停之外，学前班、1-10年级学生参加了网课学习，VCE11年级、12年级学生在课堂学习。据统计，除了返校的VCE学生之外，全校有近4000名学生在开学第一周在线上学习中文。
目前，维州每天有上万人确诊，数以千计的学生在开学以来被检测为阳性，学校基于疫情的不稳定性，决定前4周中低年级临时上网课。我知道，虽然网课对健康安全有利，但也会有不便之处。有家长说孩子上网课注意力不能集中，有的说个别老师的网课难度太高了，也有今年接新班（尤其是低年级）的老师反映网课对建立班级集体带来困难等。不过，大多数家长支持临时上网课的安排，说我校老师的网课上得生动活泼孩子们学得不错，也还有家长跟我说他们体谅老师上网课的艰辛。
我相信，我们的老师们无论网课还是实体课，都尽职尽心的。我们需要同学和家长们继续给予支持和配合。现在，新金山中文学校社区的所有成员又一次表现出了理解、合作、包容和团结一致。这是我们对战胜疫情充满信心，也是澳大利亚华人社区在过去两年多里因积极防疫受到澳洲社会称颂的原因。我在这里给大家点赞并向大家致谢。
当然，提供优质的中文教学毫无疑问是我校教学管理的重中之重。我在这里跟大家报告一下，学校已专门举办了普通中文和VCE中文的教师培训，所有任课老师也都参加了各个年级组举办得年级组教师教研活动。我们将一如既往全力支持老师们不断提高教学质量。关于教学上的任何疑问，欢迎同学和家长跟我们联系，请发邮件至：[email protected]。
今年开学之际，恰逢第24届冬季奥运会在中国北京举办。澳大利亚选手和中国选手的表现和奖牌，以及关于北京的种种新闻现在是大家的热搜。为帮助我校师生对澳大利亚选手有更多的了解，我与澳大利亚奥委会取得了联系，从他们的来函中我很高兴地得知，在澳大利亚44位参赛选手中有好多位来自墨尔本，我把这些运动员的名字和他们的参赛项目列出，请大家关注这些我们身边的体育英雄：

学校打算在条件许可的情况之下，举办一次与体育英雄的见面会，安排部分师生与冬奥运动员面对面交流，我们将从收到的来信中挑选学生代表参加。期待着你的参与！

Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Term 1 started last weekend. Prep and Year 1-10 students participated online classes and VCE 11-12 students had the onsite classes, with Early Learning classes not available temporarily. Nearly 4,000 students have attended the online learning classes in the first week of Term 1.
At the moment there are still about 10,000 new Covid cases daily and thousands of students in Victoria schools test positive for Covid since the start of Term 1. Considering the unstable situation of Covid, we have decided to conduct remote learning temporarily for the first four weeks of Term 1. I understand that remote learning keeps us safe and on the other hand it also brings inconvenience. Some parents complain that children couldn’t focus enough in remote learning, some students say their remote learning classes too hard for them and some teachers report it is hard to bond with the new classes especially in primary year levels. However, most parents have shown their support to remote learning claiming that their children have enjoyed the online learning activities and they fully understand how hard the teachers have worked for the teaching preparation.
I believe our teachers have taken great efforts in teaching no matter in remote or onsite learning and we truly appreciate the continuous support from students and parents. All the school community members have demonstrated their understanding and cooperation, which not only shows our confidence of prevailing the epidemic, but also approves the reasons why the Chinese community has been appreciated for active epidemic prevention performance in the last two years. I would like to give a big thumb to all of you and thank you for your great efforts.
Our first priority is to provide high quality teaching services to our students. I would like to let you know that we have conducted teachers’ training for general and VCE Chinese teachers and specific training sessions have also been organised for those teaching same year levels. The Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games opened just before Term 1 started. The performance, medals and news of Australian and Chinese athletes have been the hot search online. To understand and know more about Australian athletes, I have contacted the Australian Olympic Committee and been informed that there are 44 Melbourne athletes in the Australian Olympic Team. I have listed their names and sports they would enter. Please support the sports heroes next to us.

The Australian Olympic Committee is pleased to know that our school would like to provide support to athletes of Melbourne. If you are interested in their experience in the Winter Olympics in Beijing and would like to present your congratulations to them, please make it in writing and send it to: [email protected].
We are planning to organise a face-to-face meeting with these sports heroes if it is possible and practical and we would pick some lucky students from the emails received to attend the event. Look forward to your participation.
