Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
I would like to let you know that Term 3 starts from this weekend (16/17 July). There are 9 weeks in Term 3 and it ends on 10/11 September.
Due to the combination of Covid and flu in this winter, we highly recommend that all the teachers, admin staff, students and parents wear face masks and keep in social distance while staying on campus. Meanwhile, parents are required as usual to leave the campus when the classes start. We appreciate your cooperation and support to keep our school environment safe and health.
In Term 3, there will be a couple of competitions ahead as usual, such as the Chinese Handwriting Competition for primary level students, Speaking Competition for elementary level students, VCE Year 12 Study Competition and VCE Year 12 Mock Exam. Please refer to the relevant notice for details later.
During Term 2 break, 320 students participated in the Online Chinese Culture Camp (Guangdong Camp, Fujian Camp, Shenzhen Camp, Yuyao Camp and Xiangshan Camp) organised by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and 14 XJS teachers worked with these students as volunteer class leaders. In the event, participants worked hard listening to the stories of Chinese culture and history and presented wonderful work with huge support from their parents and class leaders, which have been highly appreciated and applauded by the representatives of ACFROC. For the reports on 2022 Online Chinese Culture Camp, please visit our website for details: https://xjs.vic.edu.au/onlinechineseculturecamp2022/
https://xjs.vic.edu.au/onlinechineseculturecamp/
We also provided a 5-day Chinese Culture Camp onsite with 200 participants, hosted by China Overseas Exchanges Association and organised by Beijing Chinese Language and Culture College. Students in 9 classes learned various Chinese culture knowledge online with experts from Beijing Chinese Language and Culture College and gained hands-on experience on Chinese culture and traditional skills with volunteer teachers of XJS. Please visit our website for details: https://xjs.vic.edu.au/2022-chinese-culture-camp/
I would like to mention both online and onsite Chinese culture events have been largely applauded by all the participants and many parents have presented their interest in participating more cultural events in the future. Some parents whose children couldn’t make it this time asked me whether there is any other opportunity in the future. I believe these events have increased students’ interest in Chinese culture, tradition and skills and their Chinese language learning has been improved in return.
To cater for these students’ needs and with the support of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, we are happy to let you know that another online Chinese culture camp would be organised in August with 50 places. Please scan the QR Code provided to register.
It’s quite cold recently. Please keep warm and healthy. Let’s see you onsite this weekend.
Best regards,
Kevin Hu, Principal
