(English version available in the end)

Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Our Term 3 ends on this weekend and the school holiday starts from next Monday on 19 September. Term 4 starts on 12/13 October.
During term break, our year 12 classes would still go on due to the preparation of VCE final exams (please check the class notice from your teachers for details). The mock oral test would be scheduled on 28/29 September. I wish you all the best for year 12 students and hope you could make a great achievement in the final VCE exams.
Last weekend, the first round of Chinese Culture Quiz Competition was conducted on campus for 4 different year groups. The top three students from each group would be selected to attend the second-round and final competition as the representatives of our school. Due to the great performance of the participants, we have to offer extra questions to decide the winners. The selected students of each group would receive notice from the school soon and a special training would be arranged for them later. I hope they could get a good result in the final competition.
Today, I would like to let you know the history of the school of Mt Waverley Secondary College. MWSC was established in 1964 and this year is the school’s 60th anniversary. In the 1960s, due to the Victoria’s rapid population growth, Mount Waverley High School was established on the current Senior Campus. Initially, there were only 73 students, 6 teaching staff and one staff member in the office. In early 1990s, the school changed its name to Mount Waverley Secondary College and added the Junior Campus. In 2008, the Junior Campus was rebuilt and in 2012 the campus was officially opened by the Hon. Martin Dixon MP, Minister for Education. Nowadays, MWSC has turned to be one of the largest public schools in Victoria. Last week, the school’s first group of students were invited to attend the celebration of its 60th anniversary.
It has been 30 years since XJS first rented the campus of MWSC in 1994. We have witnessed the development of MWSC, from one senior campus to both senior and junior campuses (which is rare in Victoria schools). XJS has also developed from only running classes on the senior campus to running classes on both campuses on weekends, meeting the needs of local students and even those from other areas who are interested in Chinese language learning.
I would also like to mention that in the past 30 years we have received continuous support from the MWSC although the school’s principals, management teams and teachers have changed a lot. They have never criticised us harshly on the trouble and inconvenience we have brought to them and are always ready to solve the problems with us. Since 2008, I have established a communication routine with the principals of MWSC and organised a face-to-face meeting with their principals every week. We care about each other school’s development and concerns and provide support as much as possible. As a community language school, we have proudly established a healthy and cooperative relationship with local mainstream school. I would like to present my sincere congratulations to MWSC for its 60th anniversary and pay my respect to the school principal Mrs. Karen Wade, its management team and all the teachers at the school.
I wish you a wonderful Spring holiday and let’s see you in Term 4.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
