(26/05/2023)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message

Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
I would like to let you know there have been a couple of students dispute and fighting incidents on campus in the past few weeks involving students in primary and secondary levels. Our teachers, child safe officers and school managers have handled the incidents at the first place, interviewed the students involved and witnesses onsite and helped the students understand the mistakes they have made and the students have apologized to the victims. I would like to hereby remind all the teachers, students and parents the importance of campus safety.
Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School is a DET-accredited Child Safe community language school. All our teachers, admin staff and volunteers have participated relevant child safety training, signed Child Safe Code of Conduct with active Working With Children Check before conducting teaching and admin work on campus.
XJS has developed a series of child safe policies such as Child Safe Policy, Child Safe Code of Conduct, Anti-bullying Policy, Child Abuse Reporting Procedures, Behaviour Management Policy, Guidelines of Parent/Guardian Complaints etc, and brochures for students with different reading abilities such as How To Be Safe – For Primary School Students and How To Be Safe – For Secondary School Students and also Chinese version brochures for parents. Please feel free to read these documents on our school website (https://xjs.vic.edu.au/child-safety/)
Meanwhile, there is one child safe officer available for each campus as required by CLV. If you have any concern on child safety or experienced or witnessed any child safe incident on campus, please feel free to contact the child safe officer on campus immediately. You could also contact the school principal directly.
The school management team would react any child safe incident report immediately, report to the Child Safe Officer of CLV and handle the incident under the instruction of CLV trying to negotiate with parties involved and support families in child safe education.
We sincerely appreciate the cooperation and support from teachers and parents and acknowledge the positive attitude of students involved and their apologies to the victims. Students are still learning and we are pleased to see that they could recognize the mistakes they have made and promise they would never do it again. We would support them as usual and grow with them together. I would also like to remind parents to pay attention to your child’s learning experience at school. Have a bit chat with them on the way home after picking them up which is an excellent opportunity to strengthen parent-child relationships and understand each step of your child’s growth and development. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s safety at school, please feel free to contact us.
We have zero tolerance to language and behaviour violence on campus. Let’s try to build a safe learning environment for all our students.
It’s getting colder as winter is coming. Please keep warm, drive safely and park carefully. Let’s see you on campus this weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
