(18/09/2025)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message
(English version available in the end)
Anthony Thieu

Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
I would like to remind you that our Term 3 ends this weekend. The school holiday starts from 22 September and ends on 10 October. Term 4 starts from 11/12 October.
Our Year 12 students are now in the preparation stage of VCE final exams. As usual, we would organise mock oral exam practice for them during the school holidays before they sit their formal VCE Chinese oral exams in Term 4. I wish the Year 12 students all the best preparing the mock oral exam practice during the holiday and perform well in the final exams. I believe you all can do it!
By the end of Term 3, we organised the first-round contest for the Chinese Idiom Story Telling Competition within the school and over 100 students recommended from Years 1-9 participated the event. We invited some senior members of CPCA, our school’s community partner, and some class teachers to take the role of judges as volunteers. According to the rules set by the organizer of event, the contest is open and fair, with different venues arranged according to the students’ years levels. The questions include both compulsory questions and quick-response questions. For the compulsory questions, students draw lots and tell an Chinese idiom story (for senior-grade students, written questions are also specially arranged). It is worth mentioning that many parents enthusiastically followed the event on site, which enhanced the atmosphere of the competition. I would like to express my gratitude to the volunteers from CPCA as well as to the parents.
All the students who participated in the contest demonstrated their interest in Chinese idioms, their knowledge of them and their ability to use them. I would like to congratulate them and hope they will continue to learn Chinese idioms well and master the Chinese language. Since the competition ranks participants, only some students will make it onto the honour roll. According to the final results in each year-level group, the following students achieved first to third place in their respective group and I would like to extend my congratulations to them.
Year 1 group: Muxi Lu, Bella Chen, Junyu Yang
Year 2 group: Yuhao Li, Huishi Lu, Anthony Thieu
Year 3 group: Nianting Huang, Chenhan Yun, Caixi Guo
Year 4 group: Dingmeng Liu, Siyu Li, Yunyu Feng
Year 5 group: Tingyu Yue, Chengye Peng, Yuyi Li
Year 6 group: Yunfan Yang, Ruiyuan Gu, Fangsheng Xiao
Year 7 group: Zihui Zhu, Yusen Zhang, Chenyang Yi
Year 8 group: Yucheng Yang, Yuyan Xia, Renxiang Cheng
Year 9 group: Liqian Huang, Jiarui Wang, Kexin Wang
The first-place winners from Years 1-8 will be reported to the contest organizers for training. Years 1 to 4 are grouped together and Years 5 to 8 are grouped together. The second-place winners from each year level in our school will be considered by the school for training as reserve contestants. The Year 9 group will be formed by the first student from each class to register, and they will be directly reported to the contest organizers for training. Specific training arrangements will be announced separately.
In Term 3, our students from Years 1- 3 participated in a Chinese handwriting competition, while students from Year 4 and above took part in a recitation competition. We will share the detailed results of these competitions with everyone next term.
Finally, I wish everyone a joyful and fulfilling holiday! See you at the start of Term 4 on 11/12 October!
