(English version available in the end)

Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Hello everyone! Before the end of the 2025 school year, we have a series of activities and arrangements I would like to share with you here:
Last Saturday on 22 November, we held the 2025 Year 12 Graduation Ceremony at the Theatre on the senior campus of MWSC. Huang Shuo, the Head of Senior School/VCE Coordinator, hosted the event and was attended by Year 12 teachers, students and parents. Student representatives shared their thoughts on Chinese learning and their appreciation to the teachers, classmates and XJS, including Shian Xin from the subject of Chinese Language, Culture and Society, Tanya Sun from the Chinese Second Language (SL), Liying Peng from the Chinese Second Language Advanced (SLA), and Junhong Lu from the Chinese First Language (FL). All the Year 12 teachers, Mr Haoliang Sun, the Chairman of the School Council, and I myself were invited to make speeches, sharing teaching experiences and testimonials and encouraging graduating students to continue learning Chinese and take it to the next level in the future. Year 12 teachers Yifan Wang, Ning Gao, Xueling Shen, Dongfeng Chen, Shanshan Cao, Yichen Zhao, Huiyan Luo, Fang Cheng, Wenxia Liu, Huiming Wang, Yawei Yuan, Ying Yang, Hanjing Li, Jie Xia and Shuo Huang accepted flowers and applause. All the Year 12 students received their graduation certificates for successfully completing their Year 12 and VCE Chinese courses at XJS. I would like to congratulate all the Year 12 students and express my gratitude to their parents and teachers. At the same time, I wish the students all the best in this year’s VCE Chinese final exams.
Last Sunday on 23 November, we held the 2025 finals of the school-wide Chinese character handwriting competition for students in Year 1-3 at the Auditorium on the senior campus of MWSC. About 200 students from Year 1-3 writing competition winning students participated in the finals. When they registered, they received special paper and pens according to their year levels and sat down in designated areas (by year levels) to complete Chinese character handwriting within the uniformly prescribed time. On that day, hundreds of parents accompanied their children to participate in the competition, cheering them on and adding to the lively atmosphere of the competition. I would like to express my gratitude to the parents here. Any activity organized by the school getting the support of parents is very valuable. The special paper for the handwriting competition only has the numbers of the contestants, but not their names. In order to show the importance to the contestants participating in the finals of the handwriting competition and to reflect the fairness and justice of the selection, we invite all teachers to participate in the selection. Each teacher can select 10 favourite works in each year group. Finally, the final ranking will be determined based on the number of votes and announced to the whole school.
The MWNPS campus specialized in early learning education will be open to the public this coming Saturday (29 November, 10 am-4 pm), allowing children aged 3-5 to experience the joy of learning Chinese. The campus locates at Mt Waverley North Primary School (1 Marcus Ave, Mt Waverley Vic 3149, a 2–3-minute drive from MWSC senior campus). Parents are welcome to bring their children to visit. On that day, each child will receive a gift (according to campus security regulations, adults need to register with their ID to enter the campus, please cooperate. You also need to pay attention to the parking restrictions around the campus).
As usual in Term 4, outstanding students and students who have made progress in 2025 would be selected in each class and receive medals and certificates as rewards. Due to the need to prepare medals and certificates, previous selection results were completed before the Term 4 exams and the names and awards were announced before the end of the school year. This will lead to the situation that every year some students who achieve excellent results in the Term 4 exams will not be given appropriate awards (some may not even receive any awards), and the purpose of truly rewarding advanced students will not be achieved. In addition, every year, many students miss the opportunity to be evaluated because their parents ask for leave from school before the end of the school year to take them overseas for holidays.
Based on the opinions of teachers and parents, we have made adjustments to this year’s student awards procedures: First, the awards must refer to students’ test scores and homework completion in each term throughout the year; Secondly, the names of the awards selected are “Best Student of the Year” (gold medal), “Outstanding Student of the Year” (silver medal) and “Excellence Award” (single award); Lastly, we will arrange a whole-school award ceremony after the start of Term 1 2026 to encourage everyone to follow the example of outstanding students in the new school year and work hard to learn Chinese well.
Finally, I would like to let you know: as of today, nearly 40% of students have completed registration and payment for next year, which will provide a great help to our school’s teacher recruitment and campus rental in 2026. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the students and parents!
Students and parents who have not yet registered and paid please note that our campus offices will be closed after the school holidays on December 6th/7th (no staff will be there). If you have any questions about registration and payment, please go to the campus office for consultation before the school holidays if possible. Our staff would be very happy to assist you.
Let’s see you on campus on weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
