Before the holidays, I have some good news to share with you. 12 XJS students from Years 1-12 participated in the finals of the 2025 “Chinese Cup” Chinese Idiom Story Competition organized by the Victoria Chinese Schools Association. In the intense competition of three groups, our intermediate group composed of Tingyu Yue, Yunfan Yang, Zihui Zhu and Yucheng Yang won the group gold trophy, winning the honour for our school. Although the students in the other two groups did not get a ranking, their wonderful performance also deserves recognition. I would like to especially thank the parents of all the contestants for their company and also thank the teacher Yuan Lili who led the team.
I would also like to let you know the outcome of recent activity organised in Term 4. More than 1,000 students in Years 1-3 participated in a Chinese Character Handwriting Competition and nearly 200 participated the final competition and the final winners were selected by our teachers. In Year 1 Group, 10 Students won the First Prize, 15 won the Second Prize and 21 won the Third Prize. In Year 2 Group, 10 Students won the First Prize, 15 won the Second Prize and 18 won the Third Prize. In Year 3 Group, 10 Students won the First Prize, 15 won the Second Prize and 19 won the Third Prize (The list of winners will be announced on the school’s website, and award certificates will be issued by each campus this weekend). I would like to congratulate all the students and parents who won the awards and participated in the finals, as well as their instructors. Many parents approached me asking what holiday activities we would organize or what activities we recommend during the coming school holidays. To tell you the truth, there are quite a few activities available during the holidays. Those who are interested are welcome to participate:
1. Holiday Learning Camp. The non-profit 5-day “Little Gentleman Learning Camp” hosted by ZCK includes learning classic Chinese stories in the morning and cultural experiences in the afternoon. Through interesting courses, children can improve their manner and increase interest in Chinese language and traditional Chinese culture. The age requirement for the participants is 6-12 years old. If you are interested, please feel free to visit the website for more details at https://zeechengkhor.org.au/young-virtuous-person/ or send emails to [email protected] for enquires.
2. Shanghai Study Tour. “Visit Shanghai, Learn Science and Technology” Australian Chinese Youth Shanghai Study Camp will be held in Shanghai from 6-13 January 2026. The main learning and experience content includes: dyeing – creating flowers in cloth, pottery – rebirth of utensils, sports interaction, intangible cultural heritage – stone rubbing on roof-tile ends, Yushu Technology, Shanghai Jahua, VR competitive experience, etc. The participants will visit attractions include Yuyuan Garden, Nanjing Road, the Bund, Securities Exchange Center, Shanghai Circus, Wuzhen, Oriental Pearl Revolving Restaurant, Jinchao Alley 8, Shanghai Observatory, etc. This event is suitable for students who are on vacation at Shanghai at that time to sign up and participate in the group at their own expense (non-profit). Only a few places are available. Interested parents are welcome to contact me at the MWSC senior campus Chinese office in the Hall this weekend to get more information.
3. The 2026 Children’s Spring Festival Gala offers invitation to XJS students now. Students under the age of 16 who have a certain level of skills in vocal music, dance, instrumental music, opera, language, catwalk, martial arts, calligraphy and painting, etc. can sign up. The recording of the performance should not exceed 4 minutes, and the school will submit the recording as a group (due on 30 December). The participation is free of charge. Interested parents could send an email to request event details at [email protected] with the subject name “Children’s Spring Festival Gala Registration Inquiry” (due on 13 December).
At the end of the school year, our early learning sector (early learning-prep), Accelerated Chinese Program sector (years 1-9), MWSC senior campus (years 1-9) and high school/VCE Chinese sector held different forms of teacher team-building activities. In team building activities, through communication and interaction between teachers, they learn more teaching experience and methods and improve their teaching and class management skills. Team-building activities allow teachers to relax, relieve stress, enhance their awareness of teamwork and improve their enthusiasm and initiative for work. I believe teachers will come back next year with improved overall teaching quality.
Finally, I would like to sincerely thank every member of the school community, every teacher, student and parent, and all CPCA volunteers who have worked together with us in the year of 2025 to maintain the safety of the campus, ensure normal teaching order and contribute to the growth and development of our students and the school.
Happy Christmas and New Year to everyone! I wish you all a safe, relaxing and happy holiday ahead! See you in 2026!
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
