(16/07/2026)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message
(English version available in the end)

Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School
Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Welcome back to XJS. Our Term 3 starts from this weekend on 18/19 July and ends on 12/13 September.
During the past school holiday, we have organised a couple of training sessions for our teachers including teaching materials training, 2026 VCE final exams preparation, class management skills training, Chinese culture learning and first-aid training and they are now ready for the Term 3 teaching.
In the last few days, some of our students and volunteer teacher attended the Chinese Culture Camp in China. During their stay in China, they happened to experience a powerful typhoon that struck the country’s coastal regions. Following the organizers’ instructions, our students and staff evacuated promptly in an orderly emergency relocation, demonstrating the strong team spirit of our Australian delegation. It also became an unforgettable emergency evacuation drill experience for all the participants.
During the school holiday, some of our students also took part, through our recommendation and introduction, in the “Little Gentlemen Learning Camp” organized by Melbourne Zee Cheng Khor Moral Uplifting Society. I was invited to attend the camp’s closing ceremony and watched the students’ final presentation performances. I found that all of the students had gained a great deal in terms of Chinese culture, Chinese etiquette, Chinese history and traditional customs. They were all very happy and reluctant to leave, which shows that the organizers had indeed made meticulous preparations and managed the camp with great care, leading to its successful outcome. Some parents approached to me on the day specifically to share their feedback. They said they had enrolled their children with a “let’s give it a try” mindset after hearing the introduction from our teachers. Now they’ve found the activity to be excellent and hope they’ll be notified again next time.
In Term 3, various academic competitions will be organized as usual for students of different year levels. For example, a Chinese handwriting competition will be held for Years 1-3 students, a recitation competition for Years 4-9 students, and a speech competition for students in Year 10 and above (specific arrangements for the competitions will be announced separately).
In addition, our school will encourage and organize students to participate in the 6th “Chinese Language Cup” 2026 Victorian Chinese Youth Chinese Short Drama Competition – *Learning Chinese Through Stories*, organized by the Victorian Association of Chinese Language Schools. I would also like to briefly go over the competition requirements here again. The school will ask class teachers to help coordinate participation, and interested students and parents are welcome to form teams and register for the competition through their class teacher.
This competition is conducted in the form of a short play for a team of three people. The content requirements are: (1) telling interesting stories and growth experiences in the process of learning Chinese; (2) showing the differences, understanding and reconciliation process with parents in learning Chinese or cultural cognition; (3) showing the understanding and experience of Chinese culture during the learning process, such as traditional customs, festival culture, etc.; (4) presenting real situations and reflections on the comparison of Chinese and Western cultures and cross-cultural exchanges. The competition is divided into three groups according to day school year levels: Years 1-4 group, Years 5-8 group, and Years 9-12 group. Our school will hold a preliminary competition in Term 3 to select the best teams from the three groups to represent XJS in the finals in Victoria. Students who are interested in this are welcome to voluntarily form a team and choreograph short plays to sign up for the competition.
Term 3 falls during winter and the rainy season. Please keep warm and drive safely. We would especially like to remind parents to carefully check parking signs when parking near the school to avoid fines.
Let’s see you on campus this weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
