Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
I would like to let you know our Term 3 ends this weekend (9/10 Sept) and Term 4 starts on 7/8 October. I’d like to share with you some holiday events coming during the term break.
1. Year 12 mock oral test. The final VCE exams are approaching soon. To provide Year 12 students with some extra practice, mock oral tests would be available on 23/24 September and some extra classes would be arranged on 16 September for Year 12 students.
2. Chinese Culture Camp in China. 32 students and group leaders from XJS and Australian Chinese Youth Exchange Association (ACYEA) have been invited to participate in the Chinese Culture Camp in Fujian (16 Sept to 28 Sept) learning local history and culture. The event has been resumed this year after 3 years’ pandemic and places are confirmed after interview process. It’s a pity that some students have missed the registration due to various reasons. I fully understand their passion in participating the event and ACYEA and XJS have negotiated with local offices of All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese for more places. However, it hasn’t been very successful. I hope they could get the chance next time. I wish the event all the best and hope all the participants could return with rich experience and harvest.
3. Moon Festival event. Our community partner ZeeChengKhor Melbourne is organizing a Moon Festival event on Saturday 23 September (5:30pm-8pm, Unit 1, 14-26 Audsley St, Clayton South, Vic, 3169) inviting our students (4-year-old and above accompanied by parent), parents and teachers to join the event. The participating students would be given a lantern as a gift and could join the lantern parade on the day. Cost: $10 per person (moon cakes and dinner packs would be available). The places are limited. Please feel free to click the link for registration (due on Monday 19 September): https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/lanterns-for-allzck-tickets-707812094027
4. Overseas Chinese Youth Talent Show. The 2023 Overseas Chinese Youth Talent Show Victoria organized by Chinese Language Schools Association Victoria is ready for the first-round competition. All the registered students are expected to read the relevant notice and join the competition as indicated.
5. Our Story short video competition. Our Story short video competition is inviting students to present their stories themed on ‘the story of family’, talking about their family, how their family members thrive in their country of residence, the sweet moments in their family life and stories about their family’s motto and values.
Students 12-30 years old are welcome to join the competition as individuals or small groups. The short video is in Chinese or English only with focused theme and clear narrative and well-structured presentation (short video should be in 16:9 horizontal screen, recorded in major video format, 1080/25p, 3-5 minutes). Please click here for details. The registration is due on Friday 10 November.
6. Teacher’s seminar. As usual, we would organize teacher’s seminar during term break to present teachers an opportunity to reflect what has been taught in the term and share teaching experience with others. Recently, a parent raised concerns regarding our textbooks selected, teaching methods and testing preparation. I appreciate the feedback provided by the parent and would pass the information to our teachers. I hope they could think about it and work with all the community members on how to improve our teaching and learning.
In the end, I wish you a pleasant and enjoyable spring school holiday. Let’s see you next term.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
