(10/02/2023)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message

Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School
Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
Welcome back in 2023. In the first week of Term 1, we had a rainy Saturday and Lantern Festival on Sunday, however, 3600 students had chosen to come to school with passion of Chinese learning and the school went well. Well-done, everyone!
Today, I would like to first talk about the student registration process. Since the lockdown due to Covid three years ago and we had to move from onsite to online learning, our student registration process had to move from paper form to online form under the instruction of DET. In the past three years, parents have accepted the methods of online registration and this year over 3500 students completed their online registration before Term 1 started. It has improved the efficiency of student data collection and accuracy of data collected, reduced the waste of paper and updated the management of our student database. Up to now, there are only less than 3% of students who haven’t been allocated to classes due to various issues in online registration and they have to come to the school office for assistance. We have traced the reasons for not being registered and found out that some parents have made mistakes when filling the registration forms online and some parents encountered misunderstanding on some questions in the forms (we would try our best to revise them to avoid future misunderstanding).
I would like to present my sincere appreciation to those who have completed their children’s online registration and also thank parents who have come to us for assistance and then completed the online registration under our instruction. I would also like to appreciate our admin staff who have presented their expertise in work and great patience when receiving enquiries of parents. The registration work has completed very well with our mutual understanding and cooperation. I wish we could make it better next year.
Secondly, I would like to let you know that our main campus is within a government school – Mt Waverley Secondary College. It has updated its facilities in the past 30 years while we use them as our campus on weekends such as the two-floor building on the south side and upgraded portable areas on the north side and the new building under construction. Of course, there are still some improvements to be done, such as A-block area which is the first classrooms when MWSC was established, historical and functional, yet quite old nowadays. As you all know, the improvement of day school facilities would benefit us in the end and we have raised the renovation suggestions to local government along with MWSC. If your child/ren’s classrooms are in the A-block, please be patient and wait for the upgrade of the area. Moreover, due to large number of students enrolled and requested for class transfer, we are under great pressure allocating students to classes. Normally we would accept class transfer requests after the first three weeks of Term 1. Up to now, the first stage Chinese Accelerated Program enrolment has completed and the second stage enrolment is expected in June. There are a few places available in VCE Chinese Accelerated Program and you are more than welcome to apply for entrance tests.
Thirdly, I would like to announce that with serious consideration within Year 1 to Year 12, 350 students have been awarded the Student of the Year in 2022, 540 students been awarded Outstanding Student and 700 students been given Best Progress Award. In December 2022, Student of the Year and Outstanding Student receivers were given gold medals and silver medals separately and Best Progress Award receivers were given certificates to acknowledge their achievements in Chinese language learning in 2022. The list of award receivers would be presented on our school website. Big congratulations to the students, their teachers and parents.
Moreover, AFL sent us an invitation recently inviting students aged 5-12 to attend AFL Auskick program level 1 activities from Thursday 2 March (once a week, 5pm-6pm, 5 times) at Mount View Primary School and Brentwood Reserve. Please visit our school office for brochures and registration details.
At last, I would remind you again to pay attention to traffic rules and parking signs around the campus on weekends and set up a good example for your child/ren. Parking cars in the area 100 metres away from school with no parking restrictions is highly recommended to avoid unnecessary fines.
I wish you all the best and see you on campus this weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
