(09/03/2024)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message
(English version available in the end)

Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School
Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
I would like to talk with you about two topics today.
First, according to the weather forecast, this coming weekend would be pretty hot at Melbourne and the highest temperature might be up to 38 degrees, which would bring some impact on our teaching and daily operation on the weekend.
We take this issue seriously and our admin team has arranged some heatstroke prevention supplies for each campus.
Generally, during hot weather, no activities would be arranged outdoors within the school. It is suggested that students stay inside during break time and try to avoid staying outside for a long time. All the teachers, admin staff and students are suggested to apply sunscreen, wear hat and sunglasses while staying outdoors and keep hydrated all the time.
Let’s work together to stay safe on this hot weekend.
The second topic is about our Year 11, 12 and VCE Chinese learning.
Last Friday 1 March, our Head of Year 11&12 and VCE Coordinator Mr. Shuo Huang and full-score VCE instructor Ms Ying Yang attended a live streaming organised by Ausfocus themed on VCE Chinese learning. The two teachers, with rich experience and expertise, introduced the features of XJS VCE teaching and our VCE achievement in the past years and answered various questions from audience regarding their concerns in VCE Chinese learning. The detailed and all-round information attracted 7000 live audience and 17,000 questions and thumbs-up.
The live streaming organised by Ausfocus has been quite successful and I believe the information provided by the two teachers would be very helpful for all the students and their parents. It would definitely give parents some hints on how to encourage children to find a way forward in Chinese language learning especially when they are hesitated in the puzzle of whether they should keep on Chinese learning in year 7 and 8. Therefore, I would highly recommend you to view the full recording of the live streaming (please see the attachment).
The following topics are mostly raised during the live streaming for your reference.
The four subjects of VCE Chinese
The difference between First Language and Second Language
The difference between Second Language and Second Language Advance
The challenge students are facing in VCE Chinese learning
Activities helpful in VCE Chinese learning
How to move smoothly from Year 9 to Year 10
How to prepare mentally in the decision of attending VCE Chinese exams
How the school and parents could encourage students to keep on Chinese learning
How do XJS teachers help students in Chinese learning
What are the suggestions to students and parents with high expectation of VCE exams
What should be aware when entering VCE preparation stage for students with different level of Chinese language skills
In the end, please stay safe and healthy in heatwave. Let’s see you on campus this weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
