Dear teachers, students and parents,
We have returned to onsite learning from March 2022 and thank you all for your great support and cooperation. In the last two weeks, we have strictly followed the relevant regulations of DET to ensure the health and safety of our campuses onsite. All the students and family members who have got positive covid-19 test results have isolated themselves at home. The attendance rates on each year level are stable and our teaching has been done smoothly. I would like to thank all the parents who have reported their children’s covid-19 test results in time and please find our weekly Covid-19 New Cases Updates at: https://xjs.vic.edu.au/covid-19-new-case-updates/
Today, I would like to talk about AFL with our school. As you have known, AFL was firstly established in 1896 in Melbourne with 126 years’ history and the Melbourne Football Club is one of the AFL teams with longest history. AFL is not only a popular sport in Australia, but also the symbol of Australian culture. The government has encouraged multicultural community members (especially youngsters) to understand and participate in AFL.
XJS used to establish a community partnership with Western Bulldogs for years and this team won the Grand Final in 2016, its historic first premiership in 62 years. From 2019, we became the supporter of Melbourne Football Club and have organised over 200 students to watch AFL games in MCG. The team ended a 57-year premiership drought beating the Western Bulldogs in the 2021 AFL Grand Final.
This coming Sunday (20 March) 2PM, AFL Victoria would organise an AFL experience event with our students on the senior campus of Mt Waverley. All the students enrolled in Sunday afternoon classes (except VCE students due to age limits) are able to have a bit fun with football players and coaches learning some basic footy skills and joining the games. Some souvenirs would be available onsite.
If you are not enrolled in Sunday afternoon classes but would like to join the event, please scan the QR Code on the last page and you would also be able to get the souvenirs (registration due at 5PM, Friday, 18 March).
I wish the event a great success. Let’s see you on campus this weekend.
Kevin Hu, Principal
