(30/08/2024)Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School Principal’s Message
(English version available in the end)

Xin Jin Shan Chinese Language and Culture School
Principal’s Message
Dear teachers, students and parents,
In last week’s principal message, I announced the Chinese Culture Quiz Competition and I assumed it might be too difficult for students to participate. However, surprisingly about 100 students from various year levels have registered for the event. We have now scheduled the first-round competition on Sunday afternoon on 8 September and outstanding students would be selected to attend the final competition as our school’s representatives. The first-round competition notice would be emailed to all the registered students. If you have Chinese class in the Sunday afternoon, you could apply for class transfer temporarily.
The online Chinese Culture Camp this year would start next Monday (2 September). Up to now over 80 students have registered for the event (over the limit of 60 students as requested by the organizer). With the approval of Zhaoqing Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, we now make all the participants into three classes with three volunteer teachers. I hope you could take half to one hour per day to listen to the stories or watch videos and complete learning tasks. I wish you all the best in the learning journey better understanding the Chinese culture and tradition, making it complementary to your Chinese language learning.
Last week, we also talked about the campus safety issue and many parents have raised their attention on it. It is the responsibility of every single school community member to make sure the physical and property security of our students, parents, teachers and even the campus are protected. There are a series of child safety policies available within the school and accessible on the school’s website. Please feel free to click here for details. All the teachers and admin staff have received child safe training and the school has no tolerance of any form of child abuse. In the school’s Students Code of Conduct, it also writes that students are not allowed to damage the property and belongs of others, mobile phones are expected to be switched off during school hours and students are not allowed to take photos or videos of other students without prior permission. We are dedicated to creating a safe and healthy school environment for all the members of the school community.
Moreover, I would also like to let you know our yard duty officers have noticed recently some parents taking their children away from school during school hours without informing the school. I would like to remind all the parents that we have student early and late collection policies available to ensure parents and guardians are aware of the procedures to collect students during school hours and are advised of the school’s supervision times after school while students wait to be collected. Only parents/guardians and authorised nominees are permitted to collect students. Before taking students away from school before the school is over, parents/guardians are required to fill in the Student Early Collection Form in the office. The school will record the details of when a student has been collected early from school including date and time, reason for collection and person who received the child (including the person’s signature). When a student is collected after school hours, the school will only allow students to be collected by their parents/guardians or by a person who has been authorised by the parents to pick up their child and request and verify the identity of an authorised person who is not known to the school by using suitable photo identification (such as a driver’s licence). If a child has not been collected from the school by closing time and the school is unable to contact parents, the school will contact the authorised nominees listed on the child’s enrolment form. In extreme circumstances where schools are unable to contact one of the authorised nominees by closing time, schools will contact the necessary authorities for the safe collection of the child.
For the safety of your child and the safety of all the students on campus, please observe our school’s student collection policies.
I wish you all the best and see you on campus this weekend.
Yours sincerely,
Kevin Hu, Principal
